✨🎃 HALLOWEEN SNACKS 🎃✨

So, I’m rewatching What a Girl Wants for the millionth time and I’m realizing how differently I feel about it. Or more like, things I’m noticing this time that I didn’t may as much attention to before. Specifically how this movie discusses class (what the Amanda Bynes teen comedy discussing class? It’s more likely than you think) because it refuses to actually take a side. All the villains are smarmy, upper-class, and only care about their social standing, so clearly all of that is framed as ‘bad’, while our main character clearly is part of the lower class, as is her love interest (though he explains that he went to the nice school and ultimately rejected all that, which is one of the more direct criticisms we get of the that world), and her father’s mother is very critical of the villain’s attitude toward social standing (despite still participating in extremely upper class events and lifestyle), so having that critical attitude and being against it is seen as 'good’. But then the happy ending is still everyone having afternoon tea on the Dashwood Estate and the main character going to Oxford, so these more high class things are still seen as desirable!

I don’t have any sort of thesis statement about all this and I no way am I expecting a 00’s teen comedy to provide a lot of nuanced or radical criticisms of classism, but I just find it interesting how much more I’m noticing it this time. My parents aren’t particularly radical as far as I know (they’re not conservative either fyi) and they didn’t really teach me about these things when I was a kid, so a lot of my radicalization happened as an adult, so it’s really interesting to watch things I loved as a kid and notice stuff like this that I didn’t really pay attention to before.

This also happens in relation to my queerness! To keep on the Amanda Bynes train, watching She’s the Man as a trans masc adult is a extremely different experience to watching it as a (seemingly) cis girl!

Anyway, I don’t have a conclusion to this, I just think it’s interesting!

happy cemetery boys season :]

cannot believe there are people who aren't familiar with the 2002 movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. it's not remembered as one of the animated classics of the early 00s because it's so different than other beloved movies - no talking animals, no fantasy settings, limited comedic elements - but my god did it shine in so many other ways. arguably some of the best 2D animation ever created, outstanding soundtrack, an hour and a half of pure anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism in a kid friendly story about horseys.

My wife got me a tshirt and I fucking love it

I’m sorry but no modern comedy will ever top this

Watching them start losing it is half the joy.

I just started Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, I’m doing a combo of reading the physical book and listening to the audiobook and NOBODY told me Raine Whispers narrates the audiobook!!!
